Bon Odori Festival 2009

Date: 18 Jul 09

Venue: Panasonic Stadium

Time: 5pm - 9.30pm

Obon (お盆) or just Bon (盆) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed (deceased) spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars. Also called the Feast of Lanterns, it has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori.

In Malaysia, it was more like a Japanese Food Fair, all kind of Japanese food i.e ice-cream, Sushi, curry fish ball, saugage, noodle, shaki, grill satay, rice, cracker, Tapanyaki, ayam goreng dll but not cheap. The food stores were build on sandy ground, as such there was so dusty and smoky.

There was so many ppl attending the festival, mainly Malaysian from different races came for dancing and makan-makan. Everyone merebut-rebut to buy food macam dah lama tak makan ni... I didn't take video as I myself was holding some food. We have to park 1km away from the stadium.

Some wearing kimono, some wearing mask, some wore high heels too (the organiser already informed not to wear high heels, as it would spoilt the stadium grass), dekil sangat.

Selangor MB and some Adun were invited but they were place in a bullet proof cabinet on top of the grand stand. I think they might wished to be like us, eating and dancing on the field. Couldn't they?
