Top 5 Spots to Usher in the New Year with Fireworks!

The New Year is just around the corner and if you're not at home having a quiet time with the old folks, head on down to these spots to soak up the atmosphere of sweaty fun and eye (and ear)-popping fireworks.
Ampang Look Out Point
This is the perfect spot for a panoramic view of the Kuala Lumpur City skyline. Both romantic and breathtaking, the road that leads up to this little treasure is dark and winding, so be sure to leave early in the evening so you'd secure a parking spot. There are restaurants up here such as Gasoline, Haven, and the Bread and Olives Cafe where you can dine at with the best company, before heading over to the hill-top tower to enjoy the fireworks over the Petronas Twin Towers. Located in Ampang, the Look Out Point is a mere 20 minutes from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre for a beautiful escape.Address : Jalan Hulu Langat (B62), Ampang, Selangor.
Tropicana City Mall
The brand, spanking new mall in the heart of Petaling Jaya, which serves many of its happy SS2, Damansara Utama and Damansara Jaya residents with its array of shops and cinema, will be celebrating New Year 2010 with fireworks, live band performances, fire breathers, a samba percussion group and magicians. The activities will be taking place at the entrance of the Mall and starts at 8pm, so expect a traffic jam along the NKVE which runs in front of it, as passers-by will probably stop to watch the fireworks.Address : Tropicana City Mall, No. 3, Jalan SS20/27, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall
Subang peeps who are too lazy to drive to KL city to party will settle for the local mall's firework display which is pretty decent. Families can also enjoy the explosive colours from their backyard or garden, especially those who love having barbecue parties for the festivities. Precocious young adults can also head to Euphoria by Ministry of Sound to boogie the night down, while Bar Celona and the new Opera is within walking distance.Address : Sunway Pyramid, 15, Jalan PJS 11/24, Bandar Sunway, 46150 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

City Walk @ i-City, Shah Alam
If hearing motivational speeches which get you prepped for the year ahead is your kinda thing, then welcome the New Year with leaders Khalid Ibrahim and Teresa Kok. The event begins at 5pm with Orang Asli and multicultural drum performances, and later in the night, Selangor Menteri Besar will be delivering a speech to usher in the new year. The night comes to a close when the fireworks go off at the stroke of midnight and everyone has a warm fuzzy feeling inside.Address : City Walk @ i-City, Seksyen 7, Shah Alam.

The Curve
The annual New Year's Countdown is not complete with a concert held at the Curve, organised by Fly fm. Last year it was a Masquerade Party, and this year we will see hottie Faizal Tahir and local powerhouse Jaclyn Victor heat up the stage at 8pm. Roads will be closed to house this event hosted by Joey G and model Kylie Chapman, so be sure to get there early to avoid having to park by the roadside and risk your car getting scratched.Address : 6, Jalan PJU 7/3, Mutiara Damansara, 47810 Petaling Jaya.
So you know what to do next! Plan your celebrations ahead of time and you will escape the frenzy that are KL-ites!

Yes, no doubt the route is tough but those runners who finished strong were much much tougher.
A young kid age 8 yrs old came back very fast about 29min for 7.4km, unbelieveable. The organiser should provide more medals to the school kids to encourge them to join in running. Noticed that they were some young runners came from Perak and Kuantan. Should give some encorgement to them.

The History of One Mile Dash

2010 is approaching. While the local running community is looking forward to usher the new year by participating in the One Mile Dash on the eve, I came across some interesting facts about one mile run in the athletic history.

Sir Roger Bannister's Four-Minute Mile was named the Greatest Athletic Achievement by Forbes Magazine. In 1954, he completed the mile in 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds, and not only he trimmed two seconds off the world record, but also run the world's first sub-four-minute mile. " - source Forbes

Today, the world one-mile record holder is Hicham El Guerrouj (Morocco) - 0:3:43.13 set in 1999.

Back to our local running scene, where last year, our new year one-mile dash was lead by Robert Kigagat Kosgei (Kenya) - 0:4:12.

All category started together

Date: 26 Nov 2009
Time: 6pm
Venue: Selangor Turf Club
Distance: 5km
Medal: Top 50 for each category
Prizes Voucher: Top 5 for each category
Ya, it was late to report this race.
This event was held 1 day before the oversea trip and after coming back, there were a few races taken place. So have to update the latest races first then only have time for this.
Initially there were no medals for this run, after a few elite runners pressing for it, SP Wong agreed to provide 80 metal medals per category. Finally the organiser managed to arrange 50 pewter medals per category. Thanks god.
Not many participants, some still able to sign-up last minute. The run was shorter than 5km & ran inside the turf club, which not many ppl has a chance to go in. While running there were not much time to admire the surrounding. The organiser initially promised to have prizes presentation inside the turf club, but unfortunately, due to time limitation, the presentation took place outside around the counter. So did not has chance to get the view again.

PBIM- Trial & Tribulations of Cheng Soon

24th November 2009
"Naik kereta! Jika tak, I tangkap u!", the police instructed me. I was exhausted. A ride home would be lovely. No, I had to refuse them. I have come too far to give up right now. The policemen probably never encounter such stubborn individual before. But they knew they had to make me comply. One way or another.
...
I'm 27 years old. Happily married. Play basketball once or twice every week. Stuck in front of my PC for the rest of my waking hours. Never run a marathon before. But overall, I'm fit and healthy, which brought me to the decision to run a full marathon with zero training.
Huge mistake.

It was a hot-hot sunny day, especially the women & men veteran were running under the hot sun at around 10.30am. This event was well organised and fun. Not many female participants especially women veteran (3 participants) & girl senior (4 participants). Medal & T-shirt have upgraded to better quality compared to last year. Due to shortage of time, his year bib no. did not have personalised name. Hopefully next year the organiser will resume it and provide better prizes for the winner to attract more participants.
Definately, next year will come back again.
