Army International Run 2011 - Top 10 Official Results

We joined the 10km race and we thought, it is just another 10km road race at the flat beachfront, right? Wrong! It was in fact 10.7km of torturing hills, sharp-cornered slopes inside the Port Dickson Army base. Participants are mostly military personnel from home as well as invited guests (military) from the ASEAN region. Familiar flags seen include Thailand, S'pore and Indonesia. On the civillian side, the Kenyans again managed to steal the limelight (they bagged 9 out of the 10 prizes in Men Open category). Nevertheless, it was a very well organized event, each tasks handled with military precision and meticulously executed.

Plus: Good challenging route, well marshalled, good aid stations with ample (3) sponging station for 10km alone, combined with affordable entry fee. Good breakfast provided and combined with the military Tatoo exhibition at the nicest beach location.

Possible improvement: Start rather late at 8.00am for 22km, and 8.15am for 10km, so its rather hot, except that we were lucky today the weather was cloudy. Medal only for top 10, so it is not attracting many of the civilian runners.

This is the first year the event was organized. Kudos to the organizing committee for a very well planned and executed event. Will look forward to joining again next year.
