Nike+ Sportwatch GPS

I recently had the opportunity to try on the Nike+ Sportwatch GPS.  According to Nike, The Nike+ SportWatch GPS is designed to be simple and intuitive with only three buttons and a Tap Screen for navigation. And thats what I found about the biggest feature of this GPS powered sport watch; simplicity therefore very easy to use.

During my runs with the watch, the new Nike+ SportWatch GPS captures location information while showing runners their time, distance, pace, and calories burned on an easy-to-read screen featuring a customizable layout. Throughout the run, the GPS receiver works in tandem with the shoe-based Nike+ Sensor to deliver highly accurate pace and distance data.

In the box, the watch is accompanied by the Nike+ Sensor, therefore you can easily track your run even when you are doing your workout indoor, eg. inside the gym, therefore you can record your workout even without the presence of the GPS feature.

The Nike+ Sportwatch GPS is powered by Tom Tom, a renowned GPS/Navigation technology company, so connections the satellite can be done pretty quickly and I get to record my run within few seconds.

Another feature that I think is pretty cool is the the tap screen function, for that allows you to set manual laps (in case you are doing intervals on a track) but in most cases it is an excellent way to activate the backlight in case you are running at night or early morning.

The watch keep a history of all your runs, (as I did multiple runs when I tested it), and it even automatically sync itself with your past run history with the data from runs that you have recorded previously with your ipod, iphone, sportband etc. (from the Nikeplus.com site).

After each run, the watch gives you a summary of your workout.

but most of the details are presented graphically (beautifully) for you from the Nikeplus.com.

The summary dashboard gives you an overall report of all your runs

The routes that you ran - with a cool animated display on your pace, the elevation and speed indicated by a graph or by the color code along the route. Lap splits are also provided with detail change of pace in absolute and percentage comparison.......

Your can also keep track the mileage of your running shoes (there is a log for each pair of shoes which is automatically captured and mileage accumulated ), the run profile and a small note.  You can then of course share these information with your running buddies within Nikeplus.com, Tweeter or even Facebook.

And you can of course keep track of all your runs within a single environment, without too much hassle or too much technicality know-how.

If you intend to integrate your usage of the GPS watch with a Heart Rate Monitor, the sportwatch is compatible with some of Polar's Heart Rate monitors.

The watch retails at RM599 and is available at the Nike Stores in Mid Valley, KLCC and Pavillion.

  3. This watch is nice to use and the apps are fun & awesome. BUT then after 1 & 1/2 years of consistent using, the strap will be broken and the watch can't be recognized by the pc anymore. Should Nike Malaysia to have strap replace/repairing service or expecting a rm599 watch to only having the lifespan of less than 2 years?
