MALAKOFF’S INAUGURAL HALF CENTURY RIDE

TO ATTRACT 600 CYCLISTS
Company Encourages Camaraderie Through Community Sports

Lumut, Perak, 1 November 2012 – Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) recently launched the inaugural Malakoff Half Century Ride which aims to draw over 600 cyclists of varied background as part of its efforts to promote community sports.

Scheduled on 18 November this year, the one-day cycling event will be the first “half century” ride in Malaysia for road bicycles and will involve cyclists riding a 80 KM or 50 miles route along the scenic Manjung District.

Speaking about the event, Yusop Rashid, Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations for Malakoff said, “Malakoff has been an active supporter of sporting events as we believe it unites people regardless of difference in social status, background, gender and age. We are pleased to be a part of efforts to provide the community with a platform for family and friends to encourage each other to lead a healthy lifestyle whilst spending quality time together.”

“We believe this Ride is line with our flagship Corporate Social Responsibility platform – the Malakoff Community Partnerships as such community sporting activities inculcate and encourage competitive spirit as well as camaraderie among the participants,” he added.

The Malakoff Half Century Ride offers road cyclists the opportunity to participate and enjoy the scenic sites of the Manjung district, in a non-competitive route that culminates at the beautiful Marina Island Pangkor at Lumut. The Ride is also a unique opportunity for cyclists to participate in an event which caters to all levels of aptitude, from beginners who are out for a challenge to experienced riders hoping to improve their performance.

The Malakoff Half Century Ride is opened in four categories: Men’s Open (16-35 years), Men’s Veteran (36-45 years), Men’s Senior Veteran (45 years and above) and Women’s Open (16 years and above).

In terms of prizes, the top cyclists in each category will be awarded a trophy, while all participants who complete the ride will receive finishing medals.

Yusop said, “Malakoff has worked closely with the Majlis Perbandaran Manjung on previous events and we are particularly pleased to be able to include the Malakoff Half Century Ride as part of the community sport programme here in Manjung.”

“We look forward to collaborating further with the Majlis Perbandaran Manjung as we organise more exciting sporting events for the community here,” he added.

Registration is currently open and will close on 11 November 2012, or when the Ride has reached its maximum capacity limit of 600 cyclists, whichever first. Early birds who register before 4 November 2012 will enjoy a discounted fee of RM100. Registration fee thereafter will be RM130. All fees include a deposit of RM10 for a timing chip.

Apart from the Malakoff Half Century Ride in Lumut, Malakoff will also be organising various sporting initiatives across Peninsular Malaysia in the months to come. This includes the Malakoff Powerman Asian Duathlon Championships scheduled for 4 November in Putrajaya, the Malakoff 12km and 7km Kuala Lumpur Run on 16 December and the Malakoff Interstate Fellowship Ride in Penang at the end of this year.
