Distance: 5km and 7km
This short race attracted many elite runners, which included runners from Taiping, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. It caused the race very challenging and competitive. For men open, only 2 - 3 seconds gap between top 10 runners. Many runners ran at the Newton Challenge either 12km or 25km a day before but still managed to give great performance.
Initially it only offered 3 cash prizes, but finally it changed to top 8 winners. Medal and trophy for top 3 winners only. Prizes presentation was smooth and efficient. Attractive lucky draw prizes were ready for lucky runners. The best thing of this race was the registration fees is FREE and everyone enjoyed it very much. Hopefully next year the ministry will organize it again and allocate more prizes to runners than to VIPs.
